Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal-device-manager

I have configured (via System>Preferences>Removable Drives and Media)
the system not to automatically mount and not to browse newly mounted
media. Even so, it still does.

- If I plug in a USB memory it is both mounted and then browsed by Nautilus
- If I mount a Truecrypt volume it is automatically browsed by Nautilus

$ cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=hardy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu hardy (development branch)"

$ dpkg -l | grep hal-device-manager
ii  hal-device-manager                         0.5.9.1-6ubuntu5
          Hardware Abstraction Layer user interface

If I have Gnome Partition Editor opened and my USB memory selected it's
impossible to unmount all partitions if you have two on your USB memory.
When you unmount one of them, the other one is automatically mounted.

** Affects: hal (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
