Please boot X with the vesa driver, and see whether or not you can
replicate the issue with that.  If you can, then this is not an -nv
issue, but perhaps kernel or hardware.

Also, can you run top during a chandler full build with the -nv driver
loaded and watch the CPU consumption?  I'm guessing that for whatever
reason, -nv causes a higher CPU load than -nvidia, which then generates
excess heat and triggers the bios to kill the system.  (I've got a
laptop that does this).
