I have tried the acpi_osi option and it works great. cpu scaling is working fine at the moment. So that is a workaround, but I wouldn't consider it a proper fix as it requires manual editing of the grub menu.lst for anyone who hits this issue. Is there some way of making this automated so others don't have the same problem?
