I tried installing Octave3.0, however there are quite a few unmet
dependencies:

sudo dpkg -i octave3.0_3.0.0-1_i386.deb
(Reading database ... 116996 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking octave3.0 (from octave3.0_3.0.0-1_i386.deb) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of octave3.0:
 octave3.0 depends on libc6 (>= 2.7-1); however:
  Version of libc6 on system is 2.6.1-1ubuntu10.
 octave3.0 depends on libfftw3-3; however:
  Package libfftw3-3 is not installed.
 octave3.0 depends on libglpk0 (>= 4.24); however:
  Version of libglpk0 on system is 4.16-1.
 octave3.0 depends on libncurses5 (>= 5.6+20071006-3); however:
  Version of libncurses5 on system is 5.6+20070716-1ubuntu3.

Is there an easy way to test this without setting up a complete Hardy? Should I
compile the sources provided on the octave homepage?
Sorry, but I am new to Ubuntu/Debian.
