With the driver xserver-xorg-video-ati version
1:6.7.197+git20080118.32be3cf9-0ubuntu0tormod1h from the page
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/XorgOnTheEdge mentioned above, I haven't
experienced this problem any more, testing this driver for almost two
weeks now. Maybe you should try it as well?
