Thanks, Richard,
In reply to your questions: My current BIOS does not support LBA and checking
with Hewlett Packard there is NOT an upgrade. I did
not get an error that you described. For the present I will used my 80 GB Hard
Drive.

Subject: [Bug 62873] Re: 6.06 (Dapper Drake) and 6.10 (Edgy Eft) will not on300
GB HD
Does the BIOS in the current system support that large of a drive? Grub
Error 18 is usually due to the drive being larger than the BIOS
supports. A couple of options would be to update the BIOS and see if
that helps. I know on my system, I am using the larger drives with PCI
Controller cards, as w/o them I would have the same problem as you do.
Do you get an error similar to:
kernel (hd1,4) /bzImage root=/dev/hdb7
Error 18: Selected cylinder exceeds max supported by BIOS
Another thing to look at, if possible, is setting your drive to LBA
(Logical Block Addressing) in the BIOS as well.
See if any of this helps out at all. Thanks for the report!
