Public bug reported:
I have been having a hell of a time installing fglrx on my Compaq R4000
series laptop...i tried every hot-to on the net and could never get it
to work. I noticed that i was getting a error right after i grub
uncompressed my kernel...the following error/s:
[17179574.052000] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 7 of bridge 0000:00:04.0
[17179574.052000] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 8 of bridge 0000:00:04.0
...i figured it would effect something but never noticed it...later when
i was trying day and night to install fglrx i thaught i must have
somthing to do it..then today when i was researching i decided to lscpi
| grep ATI and this is what i got the following:

I espically noted this: 0000:00:04.0 PCI bridge: ATI Technologies Inc:
Unknown device 5a36. This is going to be a difficult bug to track down
seeing as some people with the same video card have gotten it
working...Note that i am using the BIOS mode UMA/Sideport and am sharing
128mb. I will be happy to provide anything that is needed to fix this
problem.
Note: i attached my entire dmesg and lspci output.
