This issue is still present in Hardy Desktop amd64 Alpha 4.  If there is
anything else I can provide to change the status from 'incomplete'
please let me know.

 I can also be available for discussion at #ubuntu+1 as hmuller,
coordination required.  As of the latest release, the simplest solution
is to merely hit F6 and strip splash, then boot the livecd.

If splash is not stripped, then displayconfig-gtk pops up and the screen
and graphic cards have to be configured.  Once configured, the
installation can proceed normally.
