Unfortunately, AFAIK, no brother drivers come with ubuntu Gutsy. I already experienced this problem. Cupsys detect and setup the printer with a generic driver. However, the printer will never work until the real driver is downloaded from brother website. Therefore, I suggest to mark this bug has a duplicate of bug 25966
