Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

I couldn't find any similar bugreport, although this issue was spotted
before: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-624676.html

I'm using fresh install of Hardy on Dell Latitude D630 with Intel 965. After
selecting Visual effects -> Normal, system hangs for a liitle while, just to
decide, that
"effects could not be enabled".

Underneath it launches whole bunch of compiz processes:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ps ax | grep compiz | wc -l
14961
This ofcourse slows down whole system.

My guess is that it continues to spawn compiz until it reaches a memory limit -
then suddenly screen is redrawn and compiz replaces metacity.
Everything seems to work normally (set aside compiz performance on Intel chip),
no crashes, but those processes are still running.

For now I use 'killall compiz' to reduce $BIG_NUMBER to 2.

** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
