I am being bugged by this bug. In my case, I am viewing files in
Nautilus in list mode, sorted by Type. I'm looking at a folder with
files ending in ".c.BAK". Their type is given as "backup file". But when
I click on the file, it changes type to "C source code". Because I'm
viewing sorted by Type, the file disappears from view, I guess somewhere
further down the list.

That's a nuisance because I was trying to select all the "backup files"
by clicking on the first then shift-clicking on the last. It can't be
done!

I'm using Gutsy Gibbon.
