Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cryptsetup

cryptsetup version is 2:1.0.5-2ubuntu2 , and I was able to reproduce
this bug on kernel 2.6.22-14 (immediately after an upgrade to gutsy).

contents of /etc/crypttab -
crypthome /dev/hda4 none cipher=aes
cryptswap /dev/hda5 /dev/random swap

During bootup, after typing in the passphase for the crypthome device, the
terminal is covered with dmesg-style spew along the lines of
"device-mapper: table: 254:4: linear: dm-linear: Device lookup failed
device-mapper: ioctl: error adding target to table"
repeating again and again. The bootup process seems to carry on, and I can even
get to the login display, but trying to login simply hangs (my ~ is on the
encrypted drive).

My current solution to this is to use an old kernel - 2.6.20-13 seems to
relieve the problem.
