Johan, I didn't find it necessary to add model=3stack. But other users have used that successfully, as well as dsell-3stack.
The latest Hardy amd64 and i386 releases (Alpha 4) and daily-live cds solves the issue. The only thing left to the user is to unmute Surround in gnome-volume-control. Surround in alsamixer is up as it should be, and it shows that it is unmuted, but for some odd reason (another bug to log) it is muted by default in gnome-volume-control. Once you've done that, your alsa/pulseaudio sound will work like a champ.
