Public bug reported: Binary package hint: alsa-oss
Getting Real Player to work properly in 64 bit Ubuntu is well beyond the level of the novice user and needs to be seriously improved. The thread at http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-158671.html tells you something of the problem and points you at the solution, but need to know where to download the libraries, how extract them from a deb and then how to copy them into /usr/lib32. Add to that the need to edit the /usr/bin/realplay script. The underlying problem is that real player is a 32-bit application. It needs to be run under aoss to work properly with video and, in turn, this requires the 32-bit alsa-oss libraries to be in /usr/lib32. All this has to be done manually. To fix the problem, the alsa-oss package for 64 bit Ubuntu should also include and install the 32-bit versions in lib32. That will overcome most of the problem. As real player is a 3rd party app then it is not so easy to have the /usr/bin/realplay script pre-edited to call the realplayer application under aoss, but a short "How To" would go a long way to ease user frustration. https://player.helixcommunity.org/2005/help/playerfaq.html#mozTocId185548 tells you how to modify the script ** Affects: alsa-oss (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Too difficult to get real player running on 64 bit ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/191638 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
