I've recreated this using kernel version Ubuntu 2.6.24-7.12-generic on
Hardy Heron. The extract from '/var/log/messages' follows:

This bug isn't worthy of a Stable Release update for kernels 2.6.22 or
2.6.17 so I am marking those as won't fix. It really would be quite
helpful if someone were to work with upstream on this bug report if it
is important to them.
