This appears to be normal behavior. If a drive doesn't unmount
correctly before disconnecting it or turning off the computer (ie a
power outage, forced power-off, or literally pulling the plug) then
there could be errors in the file system. The "error" message during
boot is just a notification that a utility is being run to check for
such errors and fix the file system if necessary. It may happen from
time to time and isn't particularly a problem since fsck will fix the
file system.

Similar behavior is observable on other major operating systems, such as
Microsoft Windows, where the program "scandisk" will run on boot on
Win95/98/ME if powered off without shutting down, and on Win
NT/2000/XP/Vista where "chkdsk" may run on boot.

If this happens every time you boot and you previously shut down the
system correctly, there may be something wrong. The error is not an IDE
problem since it's happening on sda (which you say is a SATA drive) but
it's possible that you have a hardware problem with this particular
drive. Google for documentation on the smartmontools software package,
which you can get from the repositories to diagnose any problems with
your particular drive.
