Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: vlc
I'd like to report the following:
In Hardy the included version of VLC (0.8.6.release.d-0ubuntu3) has big
problems at the moment, which seem to be caused by the latest update in
Pulseaudio (dunno if it was the latest Ubuntu patch version or 0.9.9
altogether).
Anyway, when playing a video using the default sound output module (I
suppose that VLC), there is a five second delay between video and audio.
Sometimes, when I close VLC immediately after the sound has started
playing, VLC closes correctly, but the last sample cached, loops
indefinitely, causing Gnome to become almost completely unusable
(Terminal can't be displayed, most buttons on the panel lock the same up
when being pressed and many other things). Usually the only way of
recovering this is restarting my computer.
The interesting thing is that VLC doesn't show this in OSS mode.
** Affects: vlc (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
