Public bug reported:

When I boot with the "single" kernel option, at some point it'll give me
this prompt:

Give root password for maintenance
(or type Control-D to continue): 

Usually, if I type the root password, the prompt does not show my root 
password. However, in edgy, I can see what I type in, and the root password is 
shown on the screen in clear text. I'm not sure if this is considered a 
security vulnerability, but I'll check that checkbox anyway, just to be safe.
