I'm not really sure what other steps there would be - if I overhang konsole over the edge of the screen, make the off-screen portion change (eg, by causing it to scroll), then bring it back, the overdraw is apparent. If it'd help I can try to find the compiz config files - but I'm not entirely sure where they are (there's no ~/.compiz)
