I also have precisely this problem. It is exactly as described by Brett. I'm
running Ubuntu 7.10 on an AMD64
system. My most recent apt-get dist-upgrade was 30 minutes ago. I'm using
compiz. Xdvi doesn't display.
Resizing makes it work again.
I've had other issues w/xdvi. E.g., it will ignore the 'x' command when it
wedges.
