...since I obtain the same error message when I try to change to UDMA66
by meadns of hdparm:

$ sudo hdparm -X68 /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
 setting xfermode to 68 (UltraDMA mode4)
SG_IO: bad/missing ATA_16 sense data:: ....
