Thanks for submitting this report. Following a quick e-mail to the syntax file 
maintainer, it appears that this is the correct behaviour. You should try 
specifying in your .vimrc:
    let g:is_posix = 1
You'll find more details about specifying such modes in ":help sh.vim".
