Finally I managed to track the bug down:
If I removed the following line from prefs.js, both session restore and
undo close tab began to work.
user_pref("browser.sessionstore.enabled", false);
This line was inserted earlier (when running Firefox version < 3) from the Tab
Mix Plus add-on, because it had the mentioned functionality, but avoided a
conflict with the bulit-in this way.
Due to unavailability of a compatible version of this plugin with version
3.0b3, it was disabled, so neither Firefox nor the add-on were doing session
restore, which is also in charge for "undo close tab".
