The same happens to me. Using a HP Compaq v3417la, Ubuntu 8.04 alpha 5
and a Broadcom 4311 rev 2 network card. At least now I can boot properly
the OS, until this OS version I was unable to do it without changing the
boot parameters and doing by this more harm to my laptop. I wan to move
to Ubuntu and left Windows, but each time seems more hard. I don't get
it, instead of wasting resources in fancy and useless stuff why not
dedicate more resources to solve real problems?. The way is going Ubuntu
( and Linux in general) is going to keep Linux at less than 0.01 % of
computer's main OS. I want to Linux succeed, I was using Linux since '93
and only switched to windows a few years ago, I want to return to Linux,
but seems that Linux doesn't want me....sad, very sad
