Public bug reported:

I have a HP a6220n PC with nVidia 8800GT card and ICH9 Raid0 with 3 SATA
disks. I have Vista installed on one partition and around 80Gb of
unpartitioned space for installing Ubuntu.

The installer just shows a blank screen and nothing happens -
Ctrl+Alt+F1/2 doesn't work. If the installer is booted in verbose mode
it boots up to initramfs shell after spewing out a ton of sda: rw=0
attempt to read beyond the end of device wanted=xxx limit=xxx errors on
the console.

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Invalid
