They do still apear under the ipod devices section, they were just added to the library as well. ejecting the ipod they were removed from the library. Replugging the ipod again an import starts to occur, getting import errors on ArtworkDB and ITunesDB but the tracks do not appear.
The configuration of rhythmbox hasn't been changed since my ipod was last plugged in.
