Triaged to Incomplete.  You have DSL installed.  I believe that it uses
an older version of GRUB.  As a result, the MBR portion of GRUB did not
get overwritten, but the newer GRUB files were installed to the
partition.  GRUB update failed (according to syslog).  Try removing DSL
completely then try a clean install.  You can add DSL afterward, but
don't reinstall GRUB, just print out your menu.lst and add them to your
new menu.lst file.  Make sure you have the correct partition entries.
