Hi, I can confirm this problem. I've got the sun-java6-plugin installed
(it made me install the package called firefox which was not installed
by default on a clean alpha5 install). However it is not present in the
about:plugins page. When I go here to test java:
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml ff says I must install a
plugin. I click the bar at the top, choose sun-java6-plugin and it tells
me this is already installed. Then it says the installation was
successful and to restart my browser. I restart, return to this page and
the process tries to repeat. So apparently the installation was not
successful.
