I downgraded kmilo to 1.5.8-0ubuntu1 from here...
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/k/kdeutils/kmilo_3.5.8-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
and the problem went away, so it must be a new bug in
kmilo_3.5.8-1ubuntu7. I'm marking this as confirmed and putting the
package as "kdeutils" as that's what src package kmilo is built from.
