Thanks for your bug report. The virtualbox-ose edition does not support
USB which is only available in the non-free edition for enterprises or
personal use. Concerning the shared folder in Windows XP, official
VirtualBox documentation state that you should do something like this :

1. Right clic on My computer, and click on "Map a network drive.."
2. Then you should enter the URL of the shared folder, which is : 
//vboxsvr/<the name of your share>

A network drive should now be in "My computer".

Can you confirm that it works for you with a fresh guest Windows XP
installation? Don't forget that shared folders won't work without the
guest additions installed in the guest Windows operating system.
