Since the installer didn't crash, I'm not sure if log files will help.
What will help is trying Hardy Alpha 5 and installing on a spare
partition. If the behavior is the same, then this needs to escalate. I
didn't see this as being fixed but there are perhaps 500 open bugs
against the ubiquity installer so it takes time to go through them. If
a nervous user cancels during repartitioning because of this bug, then
only bad things can happen.
