Does changing the mouse protocol to auto work?
1. Open /etc/X11/xorg.conf and change the mouse protocol to:
Option "Protocol" "auto"
2. Restart X with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace.
3. Provide the output of the following command on a terminal:
$ cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep -i "configured mouse"
** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-mouse (Ubuntu)
Assignee: (unassigned) => Pascal De Vuyst (pascal-devuyst)
Status: New => Incomplete
