I've got a bug near this one. Maybe it's the same. My System: Hardy Heron, ATI X1800 XT, fglrx, kde4. On KDE4, randomly the X-Server freezes the whole system. KDE3 is working nice. I'm not sure, if KDE4 crashes also without Composite.
