Yes, I knew that's what you suggested -- I meant to say "So can we do
that?".

How can I help?  I really want to be able to rely on distutils version
numbers in Hardy Python packages in the future, as I expect to be
deploying newly written Python software onto Hardy installations.  I'm
willing to spend a little bit of time (I don't think it will take much
time!), but what can I do?  Do I need some kind of write privileges to
Hardy repositories in order to fix this?
