To make it sure the reason for this slow rendering is not due to my files or my computers, security etc. just download any .blend file you can get and open it. Hope that you are now in a 3d window, that is like the default window when opening blender. Press ctrl-0 to get the camera view. Select some drawn objects on the screen by right clicking your mouse. Just hope the scene has some default settings and if not, find a buttons window. In that view press f5 and you can change the object's material settings. Click mirror trans to adjust how much mirror effect the object shall have via the RayMir slider. Remember to toggle the RayMir option. As the same way you can toggle on RayTransp to make the object glass like. There is a slider for that as well. The ball on the utmost left gives a rough idea how the materia should look when rendered. Press f10 to make it sure Ray (ray tracing) is turned on. Now press the biggest button there is, the Render button. F12 is a short key for that, as well. When finished, you should see the rendering time in that render window. If everything went fine, you should now have a picture with glass, or mirror like objects. Now compare the time with windows. Like I said before, linux is usually 20 - 40 percent faster than windows, but this ray tracing makes linux really freezing. I haven't make any 32-bit tests. Generally 64-bit is much faster, but the bug itself might be 64-bit related. I used bleder 2.44 from repository and now I'm using 2.45 (from getdeb) while it was supposed to be a bug fix release. Yes, I do compare exactly the the same file in ubuntu and windows. -- Ray tracing too slow (not joking) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/186371 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
