I can confirm this bug. The system slows down greatly and becomes
unusable when I run compiz. I switched back to Metacity for the moment
as I don't have time to trace this bug.

Here are some logs:

Acer Extensa 5620 Laptop

Intel Core2 Duo Processor T5450 1.66 GHz
Mobile Intel GMA X3100 (uses the i945 driver)

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=hardy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu hardy (development branch)"

Using the latest updates as of today.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.24-11-generic ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) (gcc version 4.2.3 (Ubuntu
4.2.3-2ubuntu1)) #1 SMP Fri Feb 29 21:26:31 UTC 2008

Also, I have noticed that there are seemingly two packages with i945
driver installed:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -s xserver-xorg-video-intel
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Architecture: amd64
Version: 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu2

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -s xserver-xorg-video-i810
Package: xserver-xorg-video-i810
Architecture: amd64
Version: 2:1.7.4-0ubuntu7

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -s compiz
Package: compiz
Architecture: all
Version: 1:0.7.0+git20080227-0ubuntu2

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -s compiz-core
Architecture: amd64
Version: 1:0.7.0+git20080227-0ubuntu2
