Confirmed with Ubuntu 7.10 on HP TC1100 and Logitech LX5 mouse (it has the same product ID as the MX1000 - 0xC50E), I suggest blacklisting this by default. The fact that sometimes lmpcm_usb doesn't load introduces even more confusion by creating unpredictable and irreproducible behaviour.
