I'm having the same issue. I downloaded:
linux-backports-modules-hardy
linux-backports-modules-generic
linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-8-generic
none of them did a thing.
I can play the .wav sounds, but none of them play when I log in or do
anything and when I'm in preference, they don't work there either.
