Binary package hint: xdg-utils
xdg-open can't handle targets in tar files like man pages. It can only
launch the app associated with tar files. This makes it inconvenient
for creating menu entries for opening documentation. Menu entries for
documentation is for aiding inexperienced users with RTFM directives
without requiring a terminal. Many graphical applications with man or
textinfo pages do not have built-in documentation browsing ability or
the ability to launch external viewers for the same.
