Public bug reported: Please forgive any missing/useless information- this is my first bug report. I tried to follow the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems, but not all of the commands they had listed worked.
I started with a fresh Ubuntu 7.10 install on a Gateway T-1625 laptop with a radeon x1200 series audio controller and had no sound. Everything else- including 3D graphics seems to be working fine so far. I tried using the "comprehensive sound problem solutions guide" on the Ubuntu forums (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=205449) to include downloading the latest version of ALSA (1.0.16) and
