I experience a similar problem in 64-bit Edgy Beta (+ a few days worth  of 
updates) where the swap partition isn't
mounted. The "sudo swapon -a" command failed with the message that the 
partition with UUID=.... could not be found.

After changing the UUID label to /dev/sda5 in /etc/fstab the swapon
command worked, and the swap partition was mounted at reboot.

Now, I run several other flavours of Linux (Dapper, Gentoo) on the same
computer and HD (though not at the same time). They all share the same
swap partition, /dev/sda5.
