Public bug reported:

Steps To Reproduce
------------------

1. Uninstall compiz and related packages.
2. Restart the computer (haven't narrowed down more than this).

This will lead to GNOME starting without a window manager, which requires
running 'metacity &' from a terminal (as Alt-F2 does nothing). This also adds
the line:
   exec: 140: /usr/bin/compiz: not found
to ~/.xsession-errors

Expected Behaviour
------------------

Fall back to metacity.
