Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compizconfig-settings-manager
There are lots of bugs related to ccsm key-binding problems. It seems that most of them are related to the integration with the desktop environment. ccsm refuses to change settings that gnome is "forcing". See my comments in bug #146736 for an example: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compizconfig-settings- manager/+bug/146736/comments/4 This is not yet fixed in Hardy Alpha 4. The gui is much improved, but still fails to change key bindings without a proper feedback. I can think of a few possible solutions to consider: 1) ccsm should by default not integrate with the desktop environment. This seems bad because integration is always a plus, and it lets users change some settings in the way that they were used to. However, my opinion is that this negative aspect is very minor in comparison to the pain that users go through trying to change those settings. The multitude of bugs and forum posts related to this show that users really do want to change these settings. Besides, how many windows-manager- related settings can you really change in gnome? Some of the settings that gnome "forces" over ccsm are hidden and have no gui. 2) ccsm should let the user change any option, and if those are integrated with the desktop, those changes should be pushed to the desktop environment. I.e., ccsm should have the ability to change gnome options. 3) ccsm should relax the integration requirement, and silently drop it if the user changes a setting that gnome doesn't like. The worst part of all this is that ccsm sometimes changes the binding for button1, thus rendering the mouse useless, and forcing the user to use the keyboard for navigation. I bet that most users don't know how to use the keyboard for navigation in such a situation (This still occurs in Hardy Alpha 4). ** Affects: compizconfig-settings-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Integration with desktop environment should be more flexible https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194809 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
