I think I am seeing this in a fresh install of gutsy. I get this dmesg :

[ 5.288000] HPT374: IDE controller at PCI slot 0000:01:02.0
[ 5.288000] HPT374: chipset revision 7
[ 5.288000] HPT374: DPLL base: 48 MHz, f_CNT: 142, assuming 33 MHz PCI
[ 5.288000] HPT374: using 50 MHz DPLL clock
[ 5.288000] HPT374: 100% native mode on irq 18
[ 5.288000] HPT374: no clock data saved by BIOS
[ 5.416000] HPT374: DPLL base: 48 MHz, f_CNT: 122, assuming 33 MHz PCI
[ 5.420000] HPT374: using 50 MHz DPLL clock
[ 5.420000] HPT374: too many IDE interfaces, no room in table

I have 5 IDE devices - one CDROM off the motherboard's IDE port (it only
has one), and 4 HDDs off a PCI card (all 4 are masters).

I am just moving to Ubuntu from Fedora Core 6, and it is disappointing
that this is causing me some grief.

I am also worried that it is going to fail a different drive each time I
boot and so eventually corrupt the RAID5 array the drives form part of
(along with 4 other SATA drives).

Some action on this would be good.

Thanks.

Max.
