Public bug reported:
The HP PhotoSmart C8100 has a transparency light in the lid of its
scanner. On Epson scanners with transparency light there is usually an
option in XSane that you can switch to transparency mode. For the HP
PhotoSmart C8100 this is missing. Currently I can use the transparency
mode only by controlling the scanner from the front panel and saving the
images on a memory card or USB memory.
Please check also other models whether the same problem occurs for them.
