In fact it's a more general problem with all plugins for mozilla/firefox
which aren't showing in Firefox 3 Beta 3.
I am using Ubuntu 8 with official mirrors. In order to have plugins work
in Firefox 3 Beta 3, I had to do 'ln -s /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/*
/usr/lib/firefox-addons/plugins'
After that, mplayer plugin as well as java plugin worked great!
