Since this bug report did not have answers during a long time, I set the
status to invalid but please feel free to re-open it by changing the
status to "new" if you can still reproduce the bug and provide needed
information. Thanks for your contribution to ubuntu.
Also a little workaround for gutsy which probably installed wrong values
in /etc/usplash.conf, you can probably fix the problem by
1. Opening your System / Administration / Screens and graphics menu and note
your actual screen resolution
2. Typing "gksu gedit /etc/usplash.conf" without the quotes in a terminal to
edit /etc/usplash.conf and replace values to be the same as your actual screen
resolution. Saving.
3. Typing "sudo update-initramfs -u" in a terminal without the quotes
