However, one think i know: it is a bug every time you see any "segmentation 
fault" in any stand alone application.

An stand alone application like pidgin should not suppose that there is
no bug in alsa that can cause alsa not to detect the sound card. It is
wel known that alsa does not support all sound cards...

Pidgin/GStreamer should show  up a popup window informing the user about
that there is no sound card or at least do nothing and continue running
without playing any sound.

It is however a minor bug with less importance, but it is a confirmed
bug (hapends all the time after a few seconds after connection). It is
solved by clicking silent mode in pidgin or by installing a "good
working alsa".
