Public bug reported:

Hi a while ago I tried the Ubuntu and Kubuntu 7.10 live CD on my new
Dell XPS 1530 laptop. I have read where other users have successfully
installed it on this model. I think my install differs on that I have
the base 1200x800 wide screen 15.4" display. The regular display on the
7.10 does not seem to work and seems to hang but in graphics safe mode
you can choose 1200x800 res and it is useable. I think the problem with
the 7.10 was the fact that I have the new nvidia 256megs GT video card.

Now I tried the regular live cd with 8.04 and it poped up with a cant
detect the monitor and I tried looking it from the dell list and did not
find it there nor did I find a laptop monitor with the 1200x800 res
widescreen I tried some settings and it seemed to hand for a very long
time with no cd activity which is hard to hear on my laptop.. I tried
using the graphics safe mode and it loaded but I am stuck with 800x600
max res. I will play around with this a bit but am weary about testing
with a new laptop. Any ways I have the following info with my laptop.

 From the dell site.

GRAPHICS CARD 128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GS
Glossy, widescreen 15.4 inch LCD (1280x800) & 2.0 MP Camera

>From the dell book.

 15.4 15.4 inch WXGA TrueLife
native res = 1280 x3 rbg x 800 at 262 k colors
refresh 60 hz

pixel pitch = 0.2588 x 0.2588

>From packing slip.

liquid crystal display 15.4 WXGA, Samsung, M1530

I was thinking that this might be under a samsung heading but found
nothing pertaining to 1530.

This should be easy to fix think its just a point of getting an id for
the display.
