yup me too kernel missing a config variable or somethin?
tried compiling alsa-driver alsa-lib alsa-utils myself but still get errors
i checked gcc version
#cat /proc/version

#gcc -v
gcc version 4.2.3 (Ubuntu 4.2.3-2ubuntu4)
so its not a version mismatch must just be the kernels .config

hda-intel does not load in 2.6.24-12
